Quote Of The Day: “King Mo” Lawal Calls Out Referee Kim Winslow
By FCF Staff
Following his second round KO of previously unbeaten Lorenz Larkin, Strikeforce light heavyweight superstar “King Mo” Lawal addressed a number of topics during the post-fight press conference, namely his ongoing feud with UFC light heavyweight Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, rival Gegard Mousasi and controversial female referee Kim Winslow whom, yet again, waited too long to stop a fight when she allowed Lawal to pummel Larkin in the face with punches after Larkin was clearly unable to intelligently defend himself further.
Regarding Winslow, Lawal had the following to say:
“The commission, they need to do something with her. Let her take a fight or something and give her a bad ref. Let her fight Cyborg or something. Let her fight ‘Cyborg’ and then let’s do a late stoppage of her. Because I watched her almost get Jan Finney killed by ‘Cyborg.’ I think the tables need to be turned. Put me in there as a ref and I’ll just do a terrible job like her. I heard people from the crowd yelling to stop it and she jumps in all late. I told her, ‘Hey you should have stopped the fight earlier.’ And she’s like, ‘Well, I wanted to give him every opportunity to bounce back, so if it takes for him to be asleep. That’s what it is.’ She never took a punch before so it’s easy for her to say that.”
Winslow, the first female referee in UFC history, did one of the worst refereeing jobs in the history of MMA on June 26, 2010 when she allowed Finney to practically be beaten to a pulp by Cyborg, jeopardizing the health of Finney and the integrity of a sport that is still viewed with skepticism by many.
While it’s not likely she’ll take King Mo’s advice and start competing, Winslow needs some more thorough training as a referee before she takes another job in the cage or ring again.
