Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza could be making his Octagon debut in the coming months, as the former Strikeforce middleweight champ has reportedly signed a five fight extension with Forza, which is a subsidiary of UFC parent company Zuffa LLC.

Souza’s management relayed news of the 33 year-old fighter’s extension to MMA Fighting.

The renowned jiu-jitsu competitor and 16-3 middleweight is scheduled to fight UFC vet Ed Herman at the upcoming January 12th Strikeforce event. Although Souza’s extension is with Forza, which overlooks Strikeforce, the contract could reportedly be transferred to the UFC when the former ceases operations.

Souza is coming off a first round, knockout win over Derek Brunson in August.

The January 12th card will take place in Oklahoma City and will feature welterweight champ Nate Marquardt taking on Tarec Saffiedine in the main event.
