Following Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza’s impressive victory over Chris Camozzi at UFC on FX 8, UFC President Dana White relayed that the promotion was looking at matching the middleweight up against Yushin Okami next. Now it looks as though the ball is in Okami’s court.

According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, Souza’s manager Gilberto Faria has told UFC matchmaker Joe Silva that they are interested in fighting the perennial contender. Faria reportedly added that Souza would like to take a month off and would need three months to prepare for Okami.

Souza (18-3) choked out Camozzi with a first round, arm-triangle-choke to secure his fourth straight win on May 18th. The former Strikeforce champ and decorated grappler is currently ranked fifth in the UFC middleweight division.

Okami (29-7) hasn’t fought since March when he scored a split decision win over Hector Lombard. The vet, who is ranked third, has won three straight fights now since he was stopped by Tim Boetsch last February.
