Report: Alessio Sakara’s Appeal Denied, Disqualification at UFC 154 Upheld

By FCF Staff

Despite an appeal from Alessio Sakara, Patrick Cote’s victory via disqualification at UFC 154 will stand, ensuring that the former will receive his third straight defeat.

According to the Montreal publication La Presse.ca, the Quebec commission will not look into the incident further. The organization’s spokesperson Joyce Tremblay reportedly stated: “The decision of the arbitrator is final and without appeal.”

Early on, Cote (18-8) staggered Sakara (15-10) with an onslaught of strikes, but the American Top Team fighter recovered and stunned Cote with a series of punches as he attempted a takedown.

Several of Sakara’s punches, however, landed to the back of Cote’s head and referee Dan Miragliotta ruled that the blows were illegal.

UFC President Dana White criticized Miragliotta for not intervening earlier, and has said that the promotion will attempt to set up a rematch.
