As Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva continue to participate in a media tour to promote their upcoming rematch, the latter has revealed he was injured prior to their historic UFC 162 bout.

Heading into their initial meeting on July 6th, a report surfaced that Silva had incurred a rib injury during training, and that the card’s main event might be postponed. Silva’s camp denied the report and the bout went on as scheduled, but now the former champ is saying he wasn’t 100% for UFC 162.

While speaking to the media in Rio de Janeiro this past weekend, Silva reportedly stated:

“It was good that you mentioned this because I was really hurt,” Silva said. “Nobody mentioned this yet, but that’s not an excuse for my performance. It was a below where I was injured for my first fight with Chael Sonnen. That’s it. I was at 85 percent of my physical condition.”

Silva didn’t expand on the injury or how it occurred, but added “I’m okay now.”

Of course, Weidman went on to end Silva’s storied reign by knocking the middleweight out in round two. The fighters are set to battle again on December 28th at UFC 168.
