Report: Anderson Silva Says he Was “Surprised” by Failed Drug Test, Open to Rematch With Nick Diaz

Since it was revealed that Anderson Silva has allegedly tested positive for PEDs, he’s maintained his innocence, and now the former UFC champ has insisted he didn’t knowingly use steroids in a recent interview.

Silva was recently interviewed by TMZ.com, and while discussing his failed drug test, the 39 year-old said he was “surprised” to hear the news. The legendary fighter also said he doesn’t “know what happened”, and that he plans to work with the commission, as the situation is bad for “the sport” and his “life.”

Silva said his “supplements” need to be checked, when asked if his positive tests were related to the broken leg he incurred in 2013, and his rehab regiment. Recently it was reported that Silva’s camp will claim that the fighter used PEDs, but only for ‘therapeutic’ purposes.

“The Spider” also conceded that he’ll likely be out for a year–the middleweight will probably receive at least a nine month suspension later this month–and that he’s interested in facing Nick Diaz again. Silva scored a unanimous decision win over Diaz at UFC 183 in January, but the bout will likely be overturned to a no contest, unless a successful appeal takes place.

The Brazilian star is expected to appear in front of the Nevada Commission later this month.
