Report: Andrei Arlovski vs. Frank Mir in The Works

Andrei Arlovski

By FCF Staff

It looks as though Andrei Arlovski has been removed from the title shot picture, for now, as according to a new report, the UFC is hoping to have the heavyweight fight Frank Mir next.

Following Arlovski’s stoppage win over Travis Browne in May, UFC President Dana White relayed that either Arlovski or Stipe Miocic would likely challenge champion Fabricio Werdum next.

In the latest edition of “UFC Tonight”, however, the show’s Ariel Helwani reported that the promotion is trying to book Arlovski-Mir for the September 5th, UFC 191 card. The event will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Helwani also reported that the UFC contacteda Alistair Overeem about competing at the event, but that the decorated fighter wants to wait for Junior dos Santos, who has been sidelined due to injury.

Arlovski (24-10) has gone 3-0 since returning to the UFC and is currently ranked #4. Mir (18-9), meanwhile, has rebounded with consecutive stoppage wins over “Bigfoot” Silva and Todd Duffee, after losing four straight. Mir is currently ranked #10.

UFC 191 will be headlined by a flyweight bout between champion Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson.
