UFC veteran Antonio McKee says he’s trying to get other fighters behind legislation and a union which he believes will better protect the interests of the sport’s athletes. In keeping with the “Muhammad Ali Act”, which was enacted by the Federal Government to offer professional boxers better legal protections, the 42 year-old McKee say he’s working on a “Bruce Lee Act” for MMA.

McKee relayed his intentions and work during a recent interview with Middle Easy.com, which he claims has been met with death threats. The lightweight didn’t reveal any details about the threats.

According to McKee, a fighter’s union or reform act is necessary to prevent fighter’s from being released due to “one or two bad fights”, a “bad attitude” or for falling out of favor with promoters. McKee also claimed that he “receives a lot of emails” concerning issues that  “A lot of fighters that are fighting for the UFC can’t talk about it.”

In addition, McKee argued that fighter’s are not properly compensate for the use of their image and likeness, and that they should have more ownership of their rights, in case they pursue opportunities later on in acting or modeling.

The former MFC champion also cited the need for more accomplished and retired fighters to mobilize, so that protections for MMA athletes can be realized.

McKee also reported in the interview that he has signed with World Series of Fighting and that he hopes to compete on the promotion’s next show in January.

The IFL vet signed made his UFC debut in January, 2011, armed with a 15 fight undefeated streak. McKee was released from the organization, however, after he dropped a split decision loss to Jacob Volkmann at UFC 125.

The noted wrestler and BodyShop Fitness fighter has won three consecutive bouts since the defeat.
