Although the official numbers might not be available until later this year, according to one source, Bellator’s first pay-per-view event drew over 100,000 buys.
The May 17th, Bellator event featured “Rampage” Jackson taking on “King Mo” Lawal in the main event, as well as an interim lightweight fight between Michael Chandler and Will Brooks. While the exact figure has yet to be disclosed, an industry source has informed Sherdog.com that Bellator 120 cleared 100,000 PPV buys.
The promotion’s CEO Bjorn Rebney is also quoted in the story saying:
“Sitting here, despite losing our main event, I can say I am not disappointed at all in how the show performed.”
The May 17th card was originally scheduled to feature a third fight between Chandler and lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez, however, the latter incurred a concussion before the fight and had to withdraw.
The official, PPV numbers should be available when Bellator’s parent company Viacom, provides SEC filings later in 2014.
