Report: Ben Askren Says Dana White Cares About “Bottom Line a Lot” And Not “Enough” About UFC’s Athletes

Dana White relayed this weekend that he holds no grudge against ONE FC champ Ben Askren, but that was before the latter publicly blasted the UFC President once again.

Following Askren’s quick, stoppage win over Nobutatsu Suzuki at ONE FC 19, White acknowledged the UFC might consider signing the noted wrestler at down the road. The revelation prompted Askren to sarcastically thank White via Twitter, and in a follow up interview with “The MMA Hour”, the undefeated fighter elaborated on his comments.

After comparing the situation to high school, where the “cool kids” don’t want to hang out with someone until they do something memorable, Askren had this to say:

“Even last weekend, Barao, did he make a misake? Yeah, he blew it,” said Askren. “He freakin’ blew it, big time. He probably shouldn’t be at 135 pounds. But the way Dana just threw him under the bus like he was a piece of garbage. Where was some human decency there? I think we’ve seen it time after time with Dana. And so I think at the end of the day he cares about his bottom line a lot and he doesn’t care enough about the athletes.”

Askren hoped to sign with the UFC last year, after Bellator announced they would not re-up with the welterweight. White opted to not sign Askren, however and argued that the fighter’s record didn’t warrant a UFC deal. Since then, Askren has been publicly critical of White on several occasions.

With Askren’s championship win on Friday, the 30 year-old moved his record to 14-0.
