The rivalry between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes continues to heat up, as now the latter has accused the UFC featherweight champ of taking performance enhancing drugs.

The comments come not long after Aldo’s fiery open letter, where he insinuated Mendes could be using banned substances, by referring to “supplements” the contender takes.

In a follow up interview with Sherdog.com Radio, here is what Mendes reportedly had to say when he was asked if Aldo could be using PEDs.

“I feel like this happens to me a lot, like I have a curse or something. It sucks,”  said Mendes. “I definitely do [think Aldo’s using PEDs]. This is something that’s been ongoing, but for him to all of a sudden just drop out — I mean he drops out of a lot of fights — but I think it’s pretty coincidental.”

Mendes went on to say that he believes “at least 80%” of fighters are “probably” using some sort of PED. He also expressed concerns as to whether random drug testing can be effectively carried out in certain jurisdictions outside the U.S.

Aldo and Mendes were scheduled to fight again at UFC 176, however, a neck injury forced the champion to withdraw.

The rematch is expected to get re-booked for the early fall. Aldo KO’d Mendes in their first meeting, which took place in January, 2012.
