Report: CSAC Putting New TRT Exemptions On Hold

By FCF Staff

Testosterone-replacement-therapy has not only dominated MMA headlines in recent months, but the treatment has also become one of most debated and contentious issues in the sport. Now, according to reports, the California State Athletic Commission has ruled that it will no longer hand out exemptions for TRT, until it can update its regulations regarding its use.

According to a report from MMA Junkie.com, fighters who have been previously handed exemptions in the state will still be permitted to use TRT. The CSAC has decided, however, that its regulations will be altered so that only fighters with “irreversible, structural/organic hypogonadism” will be permitted to use TRT in the future.

In other words, fighters who temporarily suffer from lower levels of testosterone due to something like overtraining or stress, may not qualify since their symptoms could be reversible.

It will be interesting to see if other athletic commissions explore similar guidelines regarding the controversial treatment.
