Cub Swanson threatened Frankie Edgar early on with his vaunted striking game at UFC Fight Night 57, but eventually the featherweight’s wrestling and ground game proved to be no match for the former lightweight champ.

Swanson was repeatedly taken down by Edgar during their November 22nd bout, and while the Jackson’s MMA fighter held in there, he was eventually submitted late in round five.

Following the fight, Swanson spoke with FOX Sports 1, and extended these interesting comments towards the man who had just defeated him (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Obviously it was super frustrating,” Swanson said while discussing the fight. “[Edgar] did what he had to do and he exposed me. I was super confident. I thought I prepared and obviously underprepared. I want to thank him for a lesson and I’m going to be better.”

Swanson was riding a six fight winning streak heading into the memorable bout, and had scored stoppage wins over George Roop, Dennis Siver, Charles Oliveira and Ross Pearson during the run.

As a result, the accomplished fighter had been promised a title fight with champion Jose Aldo, provided he had defeated Edgar.
