Although the UFC rescinded the one year suspension it levied against Cung Le recently, the veteran fighter says he’s no longer interested in fighting for the promotion, which accused him of taking banned substances.

Initially, the UFC claimed Le had tested positive for human growth hormone, following his loss to Michael Bisping in August. The dynamic striker was suspended for one year, but after the testing regiment was further scrutinized, the UFC rescinded Le’s suspension and said there wasn’t conclusive evidence to discipline him.

Le’s bout with Bisping took place in Macau, China, and as a result, the UFC was responsible for overseeing drug testing in the jurisdiction. Le and his management vehemently denied that the middleweight took any banned substance, and demanded an apology from the UFC.

Well, the 42 year-old star appeared on veteran journalist, Josh Gross’s podcast recently, and announced he’s requested to be released from his UFC contract. Le reportedly stated on the show (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I’d just prefer not to be part of the UFC anymore,” Le said. “I’d prefer not to put the effort into something I don’t believe in anymore.”

Le, who was coming off a brutal, KO win over Rich Franklin heading into the bout with Bisping, also reportedly said he would consider fighting for Scott Coker.

Le was one of Strikeforce’s top stars when Coker ran the now defunct promotion. The latter is now the president of the Viacom owned Bellator.
