Report: Dana White Says Alexander Gustafsson “Will Probably Fight Again” Prior to Title Shot

Alexander Gustafsson

Although Alexander Gustafsson and his camp don’t want him to fight again unless it’s for the light-heavyweight crown, UFC President Dana White evidently has other ideas.

Recently Gustafsson made it be know that he believes he should fight Jon Jones next, in the wake of the champ’s knee injury, which has pulled him from UFC 178.

Gustafsson was originally set to face Jones on September 27th, but his own knee injury forced him to withdraw. Daniel Cormier was brought in as a replacement, but due to Jones’ injury, that fight has been postponed until January 3rd.

Since “The Mauler” will be ready to fight by then, Gustafsson has argued he should fight the champion next. It was also reported on “UFC Tonight”, that Gustafsson’s manager has said the fighter will remain on the sidelines until a title shot is offered.

Well, in a follow up interview with UFC.com, White relayed that they will look to book Gustafsson another bout, instead of having him wait for the winner of Jones-Cormier.

“Gustafsson will probably fight again. We’ll probably do another fight for him,” White said. “He’ll probably fight again to stay active, stay top of mind and the guy has to make money.”

In addition, the UFC President reportedly noted that a fight between Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson would make the most sense.
