Report: Daniel Cormier Offers to Fight Alexander Gustafsson for an Interim Title
By FCF Staff
As Jon Jones continues to negotiate a new deal with the UFC, and Alexander Gustafsson waits to see when he’ll fight for the title, Daniel Cormier has offered up his services.
Gustafsson has been publicly calling on Jones to sign an August 30th bout agreement, but since the light-heavyweight champ is in negotiations, the fight is not final.
In a follow up interview with Sports Worlds News, Cormier said he’d be willing to fight Gustafsson, but with one condition.
“I know this will probably be unpopular,” Cormier said. “But if [Jones] won’t sign, whether it be for money or a lack of wanting to fight the kid, I’ll fight Alexander Gustafsson. But it should be for the interim title.”
Cormier is coming off a dominant victory over Dan Henderson at UFC 173, which saw the decorated wrestler choke out the latter with a third round, rear-naked-choke.
