Report: Daniel Cormier vs. Frank Mir Booked For November 3rd

Daniel Cormier

By FCF Staff

While for some time now, it’s been known that Frank Mir has been assigned the task of halting Daniel Cormier’s rise up the heavyweight ranks, the date of the UFC-Strikeforce bout hadn’t been announced. Now it appears that the recent Strikeforce Grand-Prix Grand Prix winner will face Mir on November 3rd in Oklahoma City, according to a report from USA Today.

The event will be hosted by the city’s Chesapeake Energy Arena and will be broadcast on Showtime. The card will take place the same night that upstart organization World Series of Fighting will host an event in Las Vegas.

Cormier (10-0) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Josh Barnett in May to win Strikeforce’s aforementioned Grand Prix. The decorated wrestler and former Olympian has won seven bouts under the Strikeforce banner to date, which includes victories over Antonio Silva, Jeff Monson and Devin Cole.

Mir (16-6) will be looking to rebound from a second round stoppage loss he suffered versus UFC champion Junior dos Santos in May. Prior to the loss the veteran had won three straight fights.

The upcoming November 3rd bout is expected to be the last in the Strikeforce heavyweight division, as the rest of the promotion’s established fighters have already transferred over to the  UFC.
