Report: Duke Roufus Believes Ben Askren Could Still Wind up in The UFC

Ben Askren

By FCF Staff

Although Ben Askren has been heavily critical of UFC President Dana White on several occasions, the welterweight’s coach Duke Roufus, still believes he could step into the Octagon some day.

Since the UFC passed on signing Askren, the former Bellator champ has gone on to win ONE FC’s 170 pound title, and has recorded two more, stoppage wins.

The decorated wrestler has also blasted White publicly, and has argued the Zuffa exec cares more about profits than UFC fighters.

The UFC President has responded by calling Askren a “moron”, and claimed the fighter doesn’t in fact want to sign with the promotion.

Despite all this, Roufus had this to say at a recent media luncheon, while discussing whether Askren could still end up signing with the UFC (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“I see it happening,” said Roufus about the 14-0 fighter.

“Ben, he’s a very proud guy,” Roufus said. “I’m hoping and pray. I think [it would] just be for the greater good of the sport, what the UFC has always done.”

Askren is coming off a quick, stoppage win over Nobutatsu Suzuki in August to win ONE FC’s welterweight title.
