Report: Fedor Emelianenko To Be Cut From Strikeforce

By FCF Staff

Fedor Emelianenko will not be given an opportunity to end his three fight losing streak anytime soon in Strikeforce as, according to reports, the former Pride champion has been released by the promotion.

UFC President Dana White announced that Emelianenko will be cut by Strikeforce following the pre-fight UFC 133 presser today in Philadelphia. The decision was reported by MMA Fighting and Brazilian outlet Tatame.

Emelianenko was stopped by Dan Henderson in the first round this past Saturday, to extend his losing streak to three, following additional losses to Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva.  Following his most recent defeat, Emelianenko was non-committal as to whether he would fight again.

The only win the renowned Russian fighter recording during his tenure with Strikeforce came in November, 2009, when he TKO’d Brett Rogers in the second round.

Attempts by FCF to contact M-1 Global for a comment were not immediately returned.

The 34 year-old Emelianenko went undefeated from 2001 through June, 2010 and scored victories over several notable competitors including Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mark Coleman, Matt Lindland and Andrei Arlovski.
