(Updated) Report: Fighters to Launch Multi Million Dollar Lawsuit Against UFC

By FCF Staff

Although no names have been listed yet, according to a new report, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is about to have a multi, million dollar lawsuit launched against it by several former and current fighters.

The suit reportedly accuses the promotion of using its market share and influence to cripple the free agent market.

News of the suit, which apparently will be filed soon, is being reported by Bloody Elbow.com. The story says that the plaintiffs are seeking damages that could potentially amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, based off the accusation that fighter purses and income have been hindered by the promotion. The suit could also involve the recent UFC-Reebok uniform deal that was signed.

Sources have informed the outlet that the fighters are represent by three or four law firms that specialize in antitrust litigation.

The Federal Trade Commission investigated the UFC in 2011, regarding claims that its parent company Zuffa had monopolized MMA, and found there was no basis to proceed with any action.

(Upate: According to a follow up report from MMA Junkie.com, a press conference has been called for Tuesday afternoon, at 1:00 PM/PT in San Jose, in which the plaintiffs will announce the suit)
