Report: Frank Mir Interested in Rubber Match With Brock Lesnar

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar

By FCF Staff

Speculation that Brock Lesnar could be returning to the UFC has been making the internet rounds once again, and his former rival, Frank Mir, says he’d be interested in a third fight with the pro wrestling star.

Mir fought Lesnar for the first time in 2008, which at the time, was the latter’s second professional fight. Mir won the fight in memorable fashion with a first round, kneebar.

The two battled once again at UFC 100 in 2009, and this time around, Lesnar won the fight via second round, TKO. The rematch was one of the biggest fights in MMA history.

Recently Mir spoke with the Brazilian outlet Globo, and had reportedly had this to say when asked about Lesnar’s possible return (translation via Bloody Elbow.com):

“If think that his come back would be good for MMA. He’s still popular, people know who he is and he brings attention. We are tied with one win each. I would enjoy a rubber match. I would like to welcome him back to the UFC.”

Mir is currently mired in a four fight losing streak, and hasn’t won a bout since December, 2011, when he defeated Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for a second time.

Lesnar, meanwhile, has fought since he was quickly stopped by Alistair Overeem at UFC 141 in 2011. The heavyweight, who was sidelined with diverticulitis for sometime, retired from fighting after the bout.

More recently, Lesnar has been performing for World Wrestling Entertainment.
