Report: Gabriel Gonzaga TUF 17 Finale Loss Will Stand

Gabriel Gonzaga

By FCF Staff

Gabriel Gonzaga’s knockout loss to Travis Browne at the TUF 17 Finale earlier this month will reportedly stand, despite the heavyweight’s appeal to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Gonzaga and his representatives filed an appeal to the NSAC after the defeat, arguing that Browne hit the heavyweight with illegal elbows to the back of his opponent’s head, before the bout was brought to a halt.  Gonzaga was rendered unconscious by the flurry of strikes and the fight was stopped at 1:11 of the first round.

According to a report from MMA Junkie, however, Gonzaga’s manager Marco Alvan has confirmed that the NSAC has denied their appeal. The ruling from the NSAC relayed that there is no process for appeal “based on the allegations” in Gonzaga’s letter.

While Browne did appear to hit Gonzaga to the back of the head with several elbows, commissions typically won’t overturn a fight, if the fouls come after and as result of legal strikes.

With the defeat, Gonzaga’s record stands at 14-7 while Browne’s currently sits at 14-1-1.
