Although Georges St-Pierre hasn’t confirmed whether he will return to the UFC, another chip has fallen into place for the star to launch a comeback.

St-Pierre announced he was stepping away from fighting last November, and then not long after, he injured his left knee and underwent surgery.

According to UFC President Dana White, who recently met with GSP in Montreal, the former welterweight champ has received clearance to resume training. White recently told UFC.com:

“They cleared GSP’s knee,” White said. “After surgery like that it still takes about another 30 days before you start to mentally feel right. But he’s in a good spot.”

White reportedly added that he’s optimistic GSP will return to the promotion, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

“His knee just got cleared and he’ll start training again and getting back into shape. He’ll let us know when he’s ready,” White added.

The 33 year-old St-Pierre hasn’t fought since UFC 167 last November, when he earned a split decision win over Johny Hendricks. The latter secured the vacant title in March by decisioning Robbie Lawler.
