Report: GLORY Driving Force Behind DREAM Resurrection; NYE Card Announced

By FCF Staff

The DREAM brand and promotion is not finished after all, as today the organization held a press conference in Japan to announce that it will host its annual New Year’s Eve card at the Saitama Super Arena. The event, which will be titled “DREAM 18: Special NYE 2012”, is expected to feature 13 MMA fights and 5 kickboxing matches.

Confirmed fighters for the NYE show included Satoru Kitaoka, Tatsuya Kawajiri and featherweight champion Hiroyuki Takaya.

The news comes months after DREAM’s former parent company FEG declared bankruptcy, leading to widespread speculation that the promotion was also done. According to a report from AsiaMMA.com, however, rising European based organization GLORY and its head Pierre Andurand, are the driving force behind DREAM’s resurrection.

GLORY reportedly has plans to promote 10 events in Japan next year, however, no details regarding how many cards will feature MMA bouts were announced, or whether the DREAM brand will be utilized.
