Hector Lombard has been calling for a scrap with a top ranked, welterweight for some time, and following his win over Josh Burkman at UFC 182, he’s campaigning for a fight with Rory MacDonald.

Lombard worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Burkman on Saturday night, and in doing so, ensured he remains in the title shot hunt. While discussing his next bout with the media after the event, Lombard had this to say about MacDonald (quote via MMA Kanvas):

“I think Rory MacDonald makes more sense for me. It’s up to Dana (White) but I think that Rory is not gonna fight for the title so I think that makes sense.”

The #3 ranked MacDonald was expected to challenge for the title next, but the promotion has decided to go with Robbie Lawler-Johny Hendricks III. Lombard, meanwhile, is currently sitting in the #6 ranking.

When UFC President Dana White was asked to comment on the situation, he noted that Lombard could fight Matt Brown, Tyron Woodley or MacDonald next.

The 36 year-old Lombard has won three straight fights now since he was decisioned by middleweight Yushin Okami in March, 2013.
