Shooto Americas held its latest event last night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Hernani Perpetuo reportedly laid claim to the organization’s welterweight championship by handing Tommy Depret a unanimous decision loss.

The 28 year-old, Nova Uniao fighter has now gone undefeated in nine straight bouts to extend his overall record to an impressive 17-3 (1 NC). News of Perpetuo’s championship win is being reported by MMA Fighting.com.

With the defeat, Depret’s record falls to 10-5. The Golden Glory vet had gone 4-1 in his last five bouts prior to facing Perpetuo, which included wins over UFC vets Roan Carneiro and David Bielkheden.

The Shooto 42 card was held in the BOPE headquarters, which is Rio de Janeiro’s military special force.
