Since Ronda Rousey was brutally knocked out by Holly Holm at UFC 193, some fans have been relentless in bashing the now former champ, but the latter is calling for some restraint.

Rousey was knocked out by Holm in the second round last Saturday, in what many believe was the greatest upset in UFC history. Heading into the bout, Rousey was regarded by many as the most dominant champ in the sport, and “Rowdy” was relaying her plans to retire undefeated. The defeat, however, prompted a wave of criticism to be sent Rousey’s way via social media.

Recently Holm appeared on The Dan Patrick Show, and the new bantamweight champ had this to say about all the verbal trashing that Rousey’s been facing (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I hope people don’t get too brutal with it,” Holm said. “This is a hard job to be in and a lot of people can’t get in there. When you get in that Octagon, it’s one of the loneliest places in the world, because it’s only up to you to do it.  A lot of people wouldn’t even have the nerve to be able to get in and just put it all on the line…”

Holm was also asked why she believes so many fans have been piling on Rousey following the defeat, and the decorated boxer opined “She’s been pretty vocal in her career, I think it’s easier for people to want to pick at things”. Holm also noted that Rousey is “strong” and will be able to handle the criticism.
