Report: Joe Rogan Gives Brendan Schaub Brutally Honest Assessment of Skills and Future in Fighting

Following Brendan Schaub’s first round, stoppage loss to Travis Browne at UFC 181, commentator and comedian Joe Rogan has presented the heavyweight a brutally, honest assessment of his fighting skills.

Rogan recently appeared on a podcast with Schaub and Bryan Callen, and the trio ended up discussing the fighter’s loss to Browne. Rogan proceeded to question whether Schaub has the abilities to defeat top tier heavyweights, and relayed concern for his friend.

Here is some of what Rogan had to say on the show (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“The reality of your skill set, where you’re at now, I don’t see you beating the elite guys,” Rogan said. “I don’t see you beating Cain Velasquez. I don’t see you beatingJunior dos Santos. I don’t see you beating Fabricio Werdum.”

“You came into fighting fairly late in life,” said Rogan. “You’re a good athlete. You’re a big guy, a strong guy and you can do a lot of things because of that. You’re very dedicated and you’re very disciplined and you get s**t done, but there’s a reality of fluidity of movement, of mechanical efficiency of movement that happens when you get a guy who has trained his whole life at a certain aspect of MMA. Whether it’s wrestling, kickboxing, jiu jitsu … there’s a fluidity of their movement that you don’t really have.”

Rogan added that he “doesn’t like saying this”, but noted that as an experienced analyst, he has the ability to evaluate whether a fighter can compete with the sport’s best. The BJJ black belt also added that he is increasingly become concerned about the head trauma fighters incur.

Schaub, not surprisingly, said he didn’t agree with many of Rogan’s points. You can watch the podcast by heading here.

“Big Brown” has lost four of his last six fights now, and has been stopped in three of the four defeats.
