Prior to fighting Gleison Tibau at UFC on FX 8, Saturday night, John Cholish announced via Twitter that he was “looking forward to my last fight today”, and that “win, lose, or draw, I’ll do my best to put on a strong performance.” After getting stunned by Tibau in round two, Cholish was unable to escape a follow-up guillotine choke from the Brazilian and was forced to tap-out.

The news that Cholish was going to hang up the gloves likely didn’t catch too many people off guard, since the Wall Street, commodities broker has consistently relayed that fighting is just his hobby. While speaking with MMA Junkie.com after last night’s defeat, Cholish left the door open to a possible return at some point, but also relayed how difficult it’s been for him to make money fighting.

Cholish noted that after training costs and paying his coaches, “I’m losing money to come down here”. The lightweight added that he’s fortunate enough to have a good paying, full time job and that further:

“I give a lot of these guys credit that fight at this level. I think they could be compensated much better based on the income that the UFC takes in. Fortunately, I can just walk away and I’m OK with it. By no means do I mean it disrespectfully toward any other fighters because I think they do a great job. But hopefully Zuffa and the UFC will start paying them a little better.”

The 29 year-old Cholish concludes his MMA career having gone 8-3 overall and 1-2 in the UFC.
