Neither Jon Jones or the vast majority of MMA fans are expecting the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion to lose to Chael Sonnen tomorrow night, and as a result, discussion as to who he will fight next continues.

While Jones recently revealed he’s interested in fighting at heavyweight or taking super fights, the champion also said he’s hoping to set a new record for title defenses at light-heavyweight. This would mean defeating Sonnen Saturday, and then taking another bout sometime later this year at 205 pounds.

At a UFC 159 media event this week, Jones fielded questions regarding future challengers, and according to MMA Junkie.com, he quickly mentioned Alexander Gustafsson.

“He’s a guy who has respect,” said Jones, who also cited Gustafsson’s recent “Harlem Shake” video which called for a bout with the superstar. “He’s a new guy to fight. It’s a champion vs. a young guy who’s ambitious. That’s a threat, always a threat, because he’s going to want it bad.”

Gustafsson (15-1) is currently riding a six fight win streak, and was scheduled to fight Gegard Mousasi earlier this month, but a cut he incurred while training forced his withdrawal. Lyoto Machida is also right in the thick of the title shot mix, however, Jones already holds a submission win over the former champ.

Jones also reportedly relayed that he’s hoping to secure a spot on one of the promotion’s upcoming FOX events, and that he would consider it an honor to fight for a national audience.
