With lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez no longer scheduled to compete at Strikeforce’s upcoming January 12th card in Oklahoma, the promotion is reportedly looking to veteran Jorge Masvidal to fight number one contender Pat Healy instead.

According to multiple reports, Masvidal has verbally agreed to fight Healy at the event, which will be hosted by Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.

Masvidal (23-7) hasn’t competed since July, when he worked his way to a split decision over Justin Wilcox in July. Prior to the win the lightweight loss by unanimous decision to Melendez last December.

Healy (28-16) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Mizuto Hirota in July, after tapping out Caros Fodor in March.

Strikeforce has not made any official announcement regarding the reported Healy, Masvidal bout.

Healy was scheduled to challenge Melendez in September as well, however, the champion’s shoulder injury prevented him from competing.

The January 12th card will also feature welterweight champion Nate Marquardt taking on Tarec Saffiedine.

The event will be broadcast on Showtime.
