Report: Jose Aldo Denies Mental Warfare of Conor McGregor Got to Him, Repeats Call For Rematch

Jose Aldo

After enduring months of trash talking and posturing from Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo lost in just 13 seconds at UFC 194, but the featherweight star denies that “Notorious” got to him leading up to the bout.

On Saturday, Aldo was handed his first loss in ten years, as McGregor quickly KO’d him with a booming left just moments into their fight. Although many believed McGregor would ended Aldo’s storied reign as champion, few, if any, predicted the bout would end so quickly.

Recently Aldo spoke to the Brazilian publication “Combate“, and when he was asked if McGregor got in his head before the bout, the fighter stated (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“There were no psychological problems – I wasn’t nervous,” he said. “No. Nothing. I was the same as always. I did everything right, my training. I talked to everyone – I was in the best shape possible.”

Immediately after the defeat, Aldo called for an immediate rematch, and the Nova Uniao fighter did so again in the follow up interview:

“Soon thereafter, we spoke (with UFC President Dana White),” Aldo said. “But I think now is still too early to talk. Emotions are high. Of course, I want a rematch. I think I have that right. Not because I say so, but my career speaks for itself.”

Following UFC 194, Dana White said that McGregor will either move up to lightweight and challenge the winner of this Saturday’s Rafael dos Anjos – Donald Cerrone bout, or face Frankie Edgar next.
