Now that Renan Barao has lost the bantamweight title to TJ Dillashaw, the renowned Nova Uniao team holds just one UFC belt. That of course belongs to featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who recently suggested his teammate may have underestimated Dillashaw.

Aldo was asked about Barao’s defeat recently, while appearing on the Brazilian radio show No Mundo da Luta, and here is some of what he had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Let’s say Barao was more relaxed than the other fight, he thought he would get in there as the champion, throw a punch and get the knockout,” Aldo reportedly said.

“Dana White said Barao was the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, that he could knock out every fighter, and maybe that made him underestimate Dillashaw…”

Aldo is preparing to face Dillashaw’s teammate Chad Mendes at UFC 176 on August. It will mark the second time the two have fought, as Aldo KO’d the contender in January, 2012.
