Jose Aldo has repeatedly called for a rematch with Conor McGregor, and following the news that the latter will fight Eddie Alvarez next, the Brazilian star says he’s retiring.

Leading up to UFC 200, Dana White said that the winner of the interim featherweight title fight between Aldo and Frankie Edgar, would advance to face the champ McGregor. Aldo decisioned Edgar to become the interim champ, and more recently, White said McGregor would be stripped of the 145 belt, if he didn’t defend it next.

Well, on Monday, the UFC confirmed that McGregor will challenge Alvarez for the lightweight title at UFC 205, November 12th. McGregor, however, won’t be stripped of the featherweight belt.

Aldo spoke with Combate.com recently, and while doing so, he made it clear he was extremely upset about the UFC’s decision to book Alvarez – McGregor, and allow the latter to keep the 145 title. Aldo also reportedly stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“If [White] likes me and my family, I just hope he released me. I don’t want a fight. I want to leave as I came in. The UFC and WEC didn’t give me anything. Everything I conquered was my merit and from my team. Nobody gave me anything. I conquered everything. And I gave them a lot more than they gave me back. I just want them to release me from my contract. I’m not a whore to sell myself [for money].

“I don’t even want to fight MMA. I want to follow a career in another sport. That’s what I want.”

Aldo was knocked out by McGregor in just 13 seconds when they battled back in December, 2015.
