According to one of Jose Aldo’s training partners, the UFC featherweight champ plans to train on Tueday and will assess his condition.

Currently, Aldo is still booked to fight Conor McGregor on July 11th at UFC 189, after suffering a rib injury while sparring. The UFC has announced that doctors have concluded that Aldo’s ribs are bruised, and that he has cartilage damage. Aldo’s coach, Andre Pederneiras, however, has said that Brazilian physicians have determined the champ’s ribs are fractured.

Aldo has informed the UFC he still wants to fight McGregor, but currently it isn’t known if treatments are helping the featherweight recover fast enough.

One of Aldo’s teammates, Jonas Bilharinho, appeared on “The MMA Hour” on Monday, and he relayed the following about the Brazilian (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I think he will probably fight. And I hope so,” Bilharinho said. “I will be with him on Tuesday to see what he’s capable of doing during training or not, but my opinion right now is that he’s going to fight. I’m going to be optimistic about it because Aldo wants this fight so bad. I think this fight will probably happen.”

Aldo hasn’t fought since October when he decisioned Chad Mendes. The latter is on standby and will face McGregor for an interim belt, if Aldo can’t compete.

UFC 189 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
