Report: Junior dos Santos Believes Fabricio Werdum Has a “Good Chance” of Defeating Cain Velasquez

Fabricio Werdum

Fabricio Werdum will be the consensus underdog when he battles UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez in November, but at least one decorated vet believes he could take the title.

Junior dos Santos, who has fought Velasquez on three occasions, recently had this to say about the match-up while speaking to MMA Fighting.com:

“As a Brazilian, I will root for Werdum to bring the UFC title back to Brazil, but he has a difficult task ahead of him,” dos Santos said. “Velasquez is an impressive fighter with a great cardio, but I know Werdum is training really hard for that. He stands a chance, yes. If he fights like he did the last time, he has a good chance at winning.”

Dos Santos is referring to Werdum’s unanimous decision win he scored over Travis Browne, which took place at UFC on FOX 11 in April. The renowned grappler has secured a November 15th, title shot, thanks to a four fight winning streak.

“JDS” has yet to compete since he was stopped by Velasquez in their rubber match last November. The former champ was scheduled to fight Stipe Miocic in May, but dos Santos had to pull out due to a hand injury.
