While middleweight contenders Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold wait to see who they will fight next, a new report says the top ranked fighters could face each other.

FOX Sports commentator, and light-heavyweight Daniel Cormier, announced on the latest edition of “UFC Tonight”, that a Machida-Rockhold bout is being “discussed.” According to Cormier, both men are “open” to the match-up.

Cormier didn’t say when the UFC is considering the fight for, but the fighter added he would like to see it take place on December 6th or December 13th. UFC 181 and UFC on FOX 13 will go down on those dates respectively.

Machida (21-5) is coming off a decision loss to champion Chris Weidman in July, and Rockhold (12-2) tapped out Tim Boetsch in his last outing this past April.

Rockhold is currently the UFC’s #5th ranked 185’er, while Machida is positioned at #2.
