Report: Marloes Coenen, Jon Olav Einemo, and Valentijn Overeem Cut By Zuffa

By FCF Staff

It appears as though Alistair Overeem is not the only Golden Glory fighter who has been released by Strikeforce and the UFC, as according to a ‘tweet’ today from team representative Martijn de Jong, Jon Olav Einemo (pictured), Marloes Coenen and Valentijn Overeem have been cut by Zuffa.

I am very dissapointed to let you know that @MarloesCoenen @JohnEinemo and ValentijnOvereem have been cut from @Strikeforce @ufc…..

The news comes just days after Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem was released by the organization, following his inability to fight on September 10th in the heavyweight grand-prix semis due to a toe injury, and then the announcement that Overeem would compete on a United Glory World Series event in October.

Coenen, Einemo and Valentijn Overeem are all coming off losses under the Strikeforce and UFC banners.

Coenen lost her Strikeforce welterweight title to Miesha Tate this past Saturday, while Valentijn Overeem was quickly stopped by Chad Griggs last month.

Einemo competed just once for the UFC in June and was stopped in the second round by Dave Herman.

Neither the UFC nor Strikeforce have made any official announcement regarding the releases.
