Not long ago word surfaced that Canadian welterweight prospect Matt Dwyer has signed with the UFC, and now it’s being reported he’ll fight Alex Garcia in his promotional debut.

The bout will take place August 2nd, at UFC 176 in Los Angeles, California according to Garcia’s management and a report from MMA Junkie.com.

Dwyer (7-1) has joined the UFC having won five straight bouts, which includes victories over UFC vets Shonie Carter and DaMarques Johnson. Dwyer trains out of Toshido MMA in Kelowna, which has also helped produced UFC fighters like Rory MacDonald and Sarah Moras.

Garcia (12-1) is coming off a split decision win over Sean Spencer, after knocking out Ben Wall in his UFC debut this past December. The Tristar fighter has won 6 straight, and the only man to defeat him to date is UFC vet Seth Baczynski.

UFC 176 will be hosted by the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will feature featherweight champ Jose Aldo taking on Chad Mendes.
