Chael Sonnen may have recently said he’s not sorry for using performance-enhancing-drugs, but the fighter’s former teammate and trainer Mike Dolce says the retired fighter wants to regain the trust of fans.

Earlier this year, Sonnen failed two random drug tests that were overseen by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and as a result, he lost his commentating job with FOX Sports. Dolce recently spoke to The Underground about Sonnen, and here is some of what he had to say:

“What Chael’s hoping for is to regain the trust and the respect of the public,” said Dolce. “He’s not concerned about his paycheck. He’s a hard-working guy. He’s capable.

“What he wants to do is be a part of the industry that he loves and that he helped build to a large degree. He’s been a focal point in this industry for the last five years. He just wants to get back and contribute something. I know in his heart, he’s such a good guy. That’ll shine through. He has to pay his penance, but I think in some way, shape or form that Chael’s going to contribute in a very positive manner to the sport and to the world.”

More recently, Sonnen has released a new podcast, called “You’re Welcome With Chael Sonnen”, and the former middleweight contender competed in a grappling match for Metamoris this summer. Sonnen was submitted by Andre Galvao in the match.
