The Nevada State Athletic Commission has rocked the MMA world, as according to reports, the organization has elected to suspend Nick Diaz for five years.

Diaz tested positive for marijiuana following his bout with Anderson Silva at UFC 183 this past January. It marked the third time Diaz has tested positive for the drug; however, the accomplished fighter is medically licensed to use marijuana in his home state of California.

After appearing in front of the NSAC on Monday afternoon, Diaz was handed a five year suspension and a fine of $165,000, according to a report from MMA Fighting.com.

The 32 year-old’s attorney has reportedly said he plans to appeal the decision.

Diaz was decisioned by Silva in the January 31st match, however, the latter tested positive for PEDs and the bout was overturned to a no-contest. Silva is suspended until January, 2016.
