Report: Paul Daley Out of Upcoming Bellator Tourney Due to Visa Troubles, Fighter Denies Involvement in “Bar Brawl”

By FCF Staff

Bellator has lost one of the biggest names for its upcoming welterweight tourney, as according to multiple reports, British UFC vet Paul Daley will not be able to enter the U.S. for the competition as expected due to visa issues.

According to a report from ESPN.com, Daley’s visa issues stem from an assault charge the welterweight has received due to his alleged involvement in a bar fight. The report from ESPN cited Bellator as the source of Daley’s reported assault charge. The powerful striker responded to news of his withdrawal via his Facebook page by stating:

It’s seems as though a mass press release has gone out to the MMA media, stating I was involved in a bar brawl, arrested, and cannot obtain a P-1 visa to compete in the USA.

…I am currently awaiting a decision on my visa, which is not expected until late April. Which means i am unable to compete in the season 8 Bellator tournament, as it starts in January.

I will be fighting in Europe in the coming months, so I am able to stay active while awaiting a decision on my visa status.

I was not involved in a bar brawl. This is 100% a false statement.

The 29 year-old Daley is coming off a first round, TKO win over Rudy Bears at Bellator 72 in July. The fighter’s only other 2012 bout took place in March, when he dropped a split decision to Kazuo Misaki while competing for Strikeforce.
