Report: Ralek Gracie Hoping to Have BJ Penn Compete for Metamoris

B.J. Penn

Metamoris has featured several UFC veterans to date, and the grappling event’s promoter, Ralek Gracie, says he’s hoping to have the legendary BJ Penn compete for the organization.

The 35 year-old Penn retired from MMA, following his stoppage loss to Frankie Edgar in July, but Gracie is hopeful that the BJJ black belt will compete for Metamoris at some point. While appearing on a recent edition of “The MMA Hour”, Gracie relayed (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):

“I would love to do something with B.J. Penn. I’d love to have him in my event,” said Gracie, who also confirmed that they’ve had discussions with Penn about the possibility of participating in a Metamoris event. “I think just him coming back to his roots as a grappler would just be incredible. People would just get to see a whole other side of him, embracing that side of his culture, which I think is really important to him, big part of his introduction to MMA. I’m definitely interested in doing something with B.J. Penn.”

Penn, who is a former lightweight and welterweight champ with the UFC, closed out his MMA career with a record of 16-10-2.

Metamoris 5 will take place this Saturday in Long Beach, California, and will feature Kazushi Sakuraba grappling Renzo Gracie in the main event.
