Report: Renan Barao’s “Going Home Without a Dime” According to UFC’s Dana White

After withdrawing from his UFC 177 rematch with TJ Dillashaw, following medical issues during his weight cut, Renan Barao will return to Brazil empty handed.

Although Barao and his camp have said that the weight cut was going as planned, until the former champ passed out and hit his head, Dana White says the fighter will not receive any money.

Following Saturday’s event White told the media (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“There’s no excuse for what he did,” White said. “There’s no excuse for not making weight. But he paid for it. He hurt us, he messed with the show, but, that kid didn’t make a paycheck, he’s going home with no money. He’s going home without a dime. He just paid for a camp, and who knows when he’s going to fight again.”

The UFC is under no contractual obligation to pay Barao his ‘show money’, since the fighter did not compete. The promotion has been known to pay fighters their show money in the past, however, when special circumstances have cancelled a fight on short notice.

The comments follow White’s revelation that Barao will not receive a title shot in his next bout.

The Nova Uniao bantamweight was stopped by Dillashaw in May, which ended Barao’s awe inspiring 33 fight undefeated streak.
