By FCF Staff

According to posts on the Twitter account of Japanese fighter Riki Fukuda, the middleweight injured his left leg in a July 16th car accident and will likely require surgery to repair it. The former Deep champion was scheduled to fight Rafael Napal, August 6th at UFC 133. (Pictured: Fukuda (left) with his first MMA opponent Joe Doerksen)

Here are two of the ‘tweets’ that have appeared on Fukuda’s Twitter account today.

I am sorry for everyone who supported me, especially my fans, opponent, persons involved UFC. I will do my best.

I had a car accident on 16th of July. I broke my left knee and it seems require surgery.

The UFC has not commented yet on the situation.

Fukuda (17-5) made his UFC debut in February and lost a controversial unanimous decision to former TUF competitor Nick Ring. Fukuda had won seven straight prior to signing with the UFC, which included wins over Ryuta Sakurai and Murilo “Ninja” Rua.

The resilient veteran did not offer any information as to when he may return from his injury.

UFC 133 will be hosted by the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA, and will feature a light-heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis in the main event.
