After Georges St. Pierre said he was going to take a break from fighting, following his controversial win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167, increasingly it looks like a rematch could happen sooner than later. Not only that, but according to a new report, St. Pierre wants to fight Hendricks again with renowned boxing coach Freddie Roach in his corner.

In a follow up report from Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole, Roach says that St. Pierre texted him after the bout, and said he doesn’t want to fight again unless the trainer is in his corner. Roach and St. Pierre have worked together in the past, and according to the coach, the welterweight champ was supposed to use his jab and inside hook versus the powerful Hendricks.

Roach was also quoted saying about Hendricks that: ”This guy, he doesn’t know anything, he just punches good with a big left hand. Pretty much with him, if you can stay away from that and nullify that, it’s not that tough of a fight. Georges did it, and he had success with it when he did, but he didn’t do it enough in the fight.”

St. Pierre was awarded a split decision victory over Hendricks, but many fans and pundits believe the latter won the bout. The champion certainly looked far worse for wear after the fight.

Initially, St. Pierre said he was going to step away to address some personal issues, but UFC President Dana White recently told the L.A. Times that he’s confident he’ll have a rematch booked soon.
