Rory MacDonald has consistently stated throughout his UFC run that he wouldn’t fight Tristar teammate Georges St-Pierre, and now that he’s set to compete for the welterweight title, his stance remains the same.

Recently UFC President Dana White confirmed that MacDonald will meet the winner of the December 6th bout between champion Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler. If MacDonald goes on to win the title next year, that means, in theory, he could possibly be champion if and when GSP returns.

White has also said in the past that St-Pierre would receive a title shot if he comes back to the promotion.

MacDonald recently spoke with MMA Junkie.com about his upcoming title shot, and whether he would fight GSP. Here is some of what “Ares” had to say:

“I’m pretty sure Georges would respect my position as champion just like I respected his position as champion,” MacDonald said. “I would just keep fighting, and he would probably be fighting other people. I would be the champion; he wouldn’t be.”

MacDonald has secured a title shot after stopping Tarec Saffiedine in the third round at UFC Fight Night 54. The 25 year-old fighter has won three straight fights.
