Report: Shinya Aoki Still Scheduled For August 31st ONE FC, Despite October 6th Tilt

Dream Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki

By FCF Staff

When ONE FC announced yesterday that Shinya Aoki will fight Arnaud Lepont on October 6th, some observers assumed that the fighter was no longer competing at the promotion’s upcoming August 31st event as scheduled. According to ONE FC, however, the DREAM lightweight champ is still expected to fight at this month’s “Pride of a Nation” event.

Although Aoki still does not have an opponent confirmed for the card, ONE FC CEO Victor Cui, reportedly relayed to MMA Weekly that the dangerous submission fighter is still scheduled to compete. The promotion’s official Twitter account also posted the news.

Aoki (30-6) hasn’t competed since April when he was stopped by Eddie Alvarez in the first round at Bellator 66. The loss snapped the Japanese fighter’s seven fight win streak.

The August 31st event will be hosted by Quezon City, Philippines, while the October 6th card will take place in Singapore.
