Report: “Shogun” Rua Robbed at Gunpoint in Brazil

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua

By FCF Staff

Former UFC light-heavyweight champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is in the news, but not for anything the accomplished fighter did in the cage.

According to the fighter’s manager, Eduardo Alonso, Rua was recently mugged by four men holding rifles in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Alonso relayed the news to the Brazilian publication Portal do Vale Tudo.

Alonso says Rua was driving a friend’s car when the robbery happened, and that the fighter even had his shirt stolen during the hold-up. The 32 year-old was not injured during the incident. Rua reportedly had to walk for about a mile, through a dangerous expressway, to the nearest police station.

Rua (22-9) is coming off a stoppage loss to Dan Henderson in March, after knocking out James Te Huna last December.

The Brazilian fighter had his nose broken during his fight with Henderson, and has yet to be booked for his next fight.
