Report: “Shogun” Rua Would Consider Bout With Anderson Silva if UFC Asked

"Shogun" Rua

By FCF Staff

After the UFC recently announced that “Shogun” Rua and Anderson Silva will be opposing coaches on the next season of TUF Brazil, Dana White quickly relayed that the two will not fight each other, at the end of the season. Since the two are former teammates the news wasn’t surprising, however, Rua reportedly would take the bout, if the UFC asked.

Rua and Silva, who were both former members of the storied Chute Boxe team, will begin filming the new season in the coming weeks. Usually, the coaches are booked to fight at the end of the competition, but Rua recently told MMA Junkie.com that the promotion did not ask him about fighting the legendary middleweight.

When the light-heavyweight was asked if he would consider fighting Silva, if the UFC wanted him to, Rua responded “yes”. The former champ went on to add that fighting Silva is not something he wants to do, but that if the promotion “suggested that, then I would.”

Since Rua continues to compete at 205, and Silva has said he intends to pursue the middleweight title once again, then the match-up wouldn’t really fit into those plans. That said, the all-star fight would be a huge draw, particularly in their native Brazil.

All this aside, Rua is scheduled to fight Ovince St. Preux at UFC FN 56 this Saturday in Uberlandia, Brazil. Silva, on the other hand, is booked to fight Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on January 31st.
